About me

I am an interdisciplinary engineer with a passion for advancing the frontiers of robotics and artificial intelligence. My research interests are broad yet focused, spanning human-robot collaboration, machine learning, computer vision, and telerobotics. I am particularly driven by the goal of translating cutting-edge research into real-world impact across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and sustainability.

Currently, I serve as a Visiting Professor in Robotics at the University of Brescia, Italy. I am also a Co-Founder of the Extreme Robotics Lab at the University of Birmingham, where I lead the Control and Manipulation team, supervising a group of talented PhD researchers and postdoctoral fellows working at the intersection of control systems, AI, and robotic manipulation. In parallel, I hold the position of Senior Lecturer in Smart Systems at Birmingham City University, where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Automation.

I am also the Co-Founder of the National Sustainable Robotics Centre, a facility equipped with state-of-the-art industrial robots, established to scale up laboratory-developed robotics research and bridge the gap between academia and industry through technology transfer. I collaborate with funding bodies such as UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the European Commission as an expert evaluator, and I have led or co-led multiple large-scale research initiatives, including the €6 million EU-funded REBELION Project. I maintain strong collaborative links with industry, engaging in research partnerships and consultancy projects focused on real-world challenges in robotics, automation, and AI.

My scholarly output includes numerous publications in high-impact journals and leading international conferences. I actively contribute to the academic community as an editor and reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.
