Dr Alireza Rastegarpanah
Robotics & AI Research Leader

Dr Alireza Rastegarpanah is an Assistant Professor in Robotics & AI at Aston University, Co-Founder of the Extreme Robotics Lab at the University of Birmingham, where he leads robotic disassembly, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Brescia. With over nine years’ experience in research roles, including at Birmingham and UCL, he is recognised for his work on robotic disassembly of complex products for reuse and recycling. His expertise spans robotic manipulation, machine vision, teleoperation, robot learning, digital twins and industrial automation. His research has involved the Faraday Institution and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, while his collaborations include the Manufacturing Technology Centre and partners across automotive, healthcare, insurance, recycling and manufacturing. He secures research funding, builds national and international consortia, and has served as PI, Co-PI and work package lead on funded projects, including multimillion-pound programmes.
